It is curious that in just a few months three representatives of urban art from Melbourne, Australia, have passed through Madrid. First it was Phoenix, when the summer had just ended; in the middle of winter, Be Free and Suki arrived. Fernando Escribano was with them and gives us (thank you very much) the images and the story of their stay and activity in Madrid. Here it is.
Suki makes her own “stamps”, hand-carved in rubber or linoleum, to stamp her paste-ups, which take us to bucolic scenes of women in everyday attitudes such as washing, knitting … Again the simplicity and the intimate relationship with nature are the inspiration for pieces that take us for a moment out of the hustle and bustle of the city.
They have left Madrid with sorrow, and Madrid has left its mark on them, fascinated by the urban art and graffiti of our city, having had a great time and promising to return. We will never forget their faces after a night of painting and pasting around Lavapiés with seven other regular artists from the neighborhood… They couldn’t stop laughing in front of “the biggest and loudest group of urban artists we have ever performed with.”
